What is Meditation?
Meditation is a means for transforming the mind. It is the means with which to watch the mind, its patterns and habits. It is the art of separating oneself from thoughts and feelings in order to become fully aware, at peace and living in the moment. For Buddhists, meditation brings the mind into a state of calm concentration and one-pointedness. It is the conscious effort to change the way the mind works. The Pali word for meditation is bhavana: to make grow to do develop through the meditation of breathing, in Sanskrit, anapana sati or lovingkindness, metta bhavana.
